165: My Science Project
As precoucious kid month rolls on, we watch a Matthew classic! While this was not a movie I had not seen before, it lurks on in the pantheon of weird 80s movies. It has all the classic elements, nerd girl who is actually gorgeous but hideous because she has glasses, jocks and nerds, washed out hippies, and Eisenhower ordering the destruction of alien technology. Also, boring pacing! Fun!
First thanks for sharing the last episode, it did great and hopefully the season will continue so well! Second, please continue to rate and review us! We are on iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, and now Spotify and could use the support; the more ratings you give the easier it is for others to find us. Also do you follow us elsewhere? Facebook? Instagram? Twitter? Myopia? On the Facebook group we are making lists for a potential listener request month.
Next, thanks to all of you who have been supporting me in the past year as I have done Cineprov! I believe I have performed six times and it is always nice to see fans. I will continue to perform and you should continue to see me! The August show wilth with Riffers Larry, Candace, and Christine), we great! I will be riffing the next movie, Matthew Broderick’s WarGames on September 7th, with Larry and Candace.
This week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, we learn where Spencer got his original gift. We watched My Science Project, does Fischer Stevens ever play a non-stereotype?

164: Casper
Welcome to Season 5 of Myopia: Defend Your Childhood! We continue the precociousness with a blast from the cartoon past, which is the only reason I can imagine that Father Guido Sarducci, Dan Ackroyd, Clint Eastwood, Rodney Dangerfield, and Mel Gibson did cameos. Further, this helps cement Christina Ricci in the 1990s, why Brad Garrett is CGI animated in all of Pixar’s movies, and is between starring in While You Were Sleeping and Independence Day for Bill Pullman. We watched the CGI-tastic Casper from 1995.

163: Matilda
Welcome to Season 5 of Myopia: Defend Your Childhood! We return strong and refreshed with constantly mentioned ‘stay-tuned’ episode, the Danny DeVito directed Roald Dahl classic, Matilda! What can you expect in the new season? So much!
First, once a month, we will have a bonus episode! (We even released one last month, if you did not tune in). Second, new theme song! Third, rather than seemingly random movies, we will pick a theme and a group of regulars will select their movie choices. This month, I selected the category ‘precocious kid movies.’ You know the ones, Nickelodeon and Disney pumped them out in the 1990s. The adults are always wrong, the kids are always right. Maybe Emilio Estevez betrays the team by trying to pick up a woman twice his height or the parents all turn out to be frauds. Finally, we know we will not get to all the selections you want, so check out the Facebook Group where we will have a survey to tell us the movies you wished we covered this month. They may come back during an upcoming listener request month!
Next, thanks to all of you who have been supporting me in the past year as I have done Cineprov! I believe I have performed six times and it is always nice to see fans. I will continue to perform and you should continue to see me! While I am not on the August show (Cineprov is riffing Troll 2 August 2nd (the day this is released), with Riffers Larry, Candace, and Christine), I will be there and so should you! I will be riffing the next movie War Games on September 7th, however (with Larry and Evan).
Finally, I want to thank my production team Candice, Daniel, Matthew, and Thomas, all the panelists, and all my listeners. I promise this season will only improve on the last!
This week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, I think we learned that child abuse gives you magic powers, just like Harry Potter. We saw Matilda, is this the only time Danny DeVito can say “I’m big, you’re little” to anyone?

Summer Reruns 2018 – Batman Returns
So, I was reminded that half the world is upside-down, which is a polite way of saying wrong, of course. So, in honor of our hundreds of listeners in Australia and New Zealand and the four people in Argentina, two in Chile, ten in South Africa, and twenty-four listeners in Brazil, we would like to share Thomas’ choice, a winter film; Batman Returns.
And what’s not to like? Thomas’ first podcast ever (and now look at him!) Danny Devito as the Penguin, Christopher Walken as a prick, Michael Keaton as Batman (or Bruce Wayne when he is wearing glasses), and Michelle Pfeiffer as a cat lady, I mean Catwoman!
Also, thanks to those who watched me at Cineprov riff Rocky IV! Tune in next month for Troll 2 on August 2nd! It’s guaranteed to be something great!
Also, do you follow us elsewhere? Facebook? Instagram? Twitter? Myopia?

Summer Reruns 2018 – Mission Impossible
In honor of the big summer blockbuster Mission: Impossible – Fallout, starring Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Angela Bassett, and Alec Baldwin , we remind you of a time where Jean Reno and Emilio Estevez could open a movie with Tom Cruise, let alone a movie. We are watching Mission Impossible!
This surprise remake of an old TV property with the twists and turns that on Brian de Palma could deliever, led to other remakes like The A-Team, The Avengers (with Uma Thurman), the Saint, and SWAT. Hey, at least some of these sequels are pretty good.
Also, thanks to those who watched me at Cineprov riff Rocky IV! Tune in next month for Troll 2 on August 2nd! It’s guaranteed to be something great!

Summer Reruns 2018 – The Last Star Fighter
Hello there! I hope that summer is treating you with sunny days and frosty air conditioning! I am from Atlanta, as many here know, and it is too hot to think…or be funny, hence reruns! We return this we with a Sci-Fi blast from the past and you know what that means… this is Matthew’s choice! The Last Starfighter, which at this point more people know from Robot Chicken than the original movie!
As an aside, the premise of the movie is great, though I think the sequel would be along the lines of Polybius.
Also, thanks to those who watched me at Cineprov riff Rocky IV! Tune in next month for Troll 2!

Summer Reruns 2018 – Road House
Hello friends and thanks for tuning in during this summer break! I hope you are staying refreshed and cool. This week we rerun a classic: Road House. Why is it a classic, you may ask. Well, I’ll tell you! Daniel picked this one for many reasons. First, it was one of the most requested movies we had done to date. Second, it was a lot of fun to record, funny to listen to, and memorable overall. Third, panelist Zack wanders off for roughly twenty minutes in the middle.
This movie gets to the meat of it all, answering questions like ‘do pain hurt?’ (answer: don’t) ‘Will you get to sleep when you die?’ (answer: do) ‘Does anyone in this world wear underwear, even when zipping jeans? (answer: don’t). Oh what fun!
Also, thanks to those who watched me at Cineprov riff Rocky IV! Tune in next month for Troll 2!

161: The Fifth Element
This week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, we watch a 1990’s spoof movie, the Fifth Element! Self-referencial, parodying, and self-effacing, this comedy. . .wait, this they took this serious? Oh no. . . .Well, I guess we learned that French humor is wierd.
Note: Sorry about the static, there was an issue I tried to fix. I promise it is better than George of the Jungle, but it would almost have to be.
