177: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
When last we left Indy, he had defeated the Nazis, saved the girl, and lost the Ark of the Covenant to bureaucratic red tape. However, this week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, we find out where he was before that movie in the one that everyone used to think was the worst! We watched the prequel Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, who says Short Round doesn’t age well! Everyone, everyone says that.

Thanks to all of those who voted to make Cineprov the People’s Choice for Best Comedy Show in Atlanta 2018! It has been one hell of a year and there is so much more to come! Between now and Spring Break we are riffing Santa Claus (versus the Devil), we ruin some childhood classic TV specials, Hercules in the Haunted World, and Road House. And that is just until February. Miss a month and miss a lot!

175: Deep Rising
This week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, we watch a movie that is not sure what it is. Deep Rising is part Alien, part Poseidon Adventure, part heist film, part inside man movie, all mess and bad CGI! A treat(?), but with appropriate scares to wrap up this monster month.

174: Lake Placid
This week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, we visit Bill Pullman after that whole President thing and hear some of the worst dialog put to celluloid. We watched Lake Placid, people really need to stop ripping off Steven Spielberg, ok? And no, your pitch of what if Betty White were the bad guy in a Jurassic Park meets Jaws crossover starring a giant alligator does not sweeten the pot. Well, I am lying, that sounds amazing; too bad this was not.
Note: There is some mild static on this episode, I tried to fix it, but could not get it completely. Sorry!

172: Godzilla
Welcome to the monster movie month Matthew maintained! This year for October we crack out a few spooky movies and have a little fun with them; well, as much as can be had with some of this crap. We start with the baffling big budget monster film Godzilla (1998). Fresh off the crushing success of Independence Day, Roland Emmerich has made some upgrades! Replacing sexy and charismatic Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum with Matthew Broderick and Hank Azaria. Replacing sexy love interest Vivica A Fox with Maria Pittio. And replacing the heroic Bill Pullman with Michael Learner (playing Mayor Ebert, a reviewer who gave Independence Day a bad review). The only true upgrade was replacing Randy Quaid with Jeno Reno. So let’s get into a Godzilla movie so bad that it saved ToHo productions who made a film where their Godzilla kills this one.

While on the Facebook page why don’t you vote to add to the list of movies we should do for this month, now that precocious kids are down!
Also, friend, do you like being part of comedies? One of Creative Loafing’s top ten comedy groups of 2018? Why then, friend, Cineprov is performing not once, BUT TWICE, in the first week of October! Once at the Plaza and once at Monsterama, friend! I will be at the Monsterama show with Candace and Larry! Friend! Friend!

171: V for Vendetta
The last ‘Cool in College Movie’ is the Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman/Wachowski film ‘V for Vendetta. Filled with masks, music, more masks, government-controlled media pretending to be independent, masks, explosions, masks, genocide, and masks; this movie has something for everyone!

168: Boondock Saints
Welcome to the next month in our season 5 line-up, Cool In College. Curated by Daniel, these movies were the posters on every wall sold in the quads from under a cheap canopy. These were the movies you thought were profound when you were in your late teens and early twenties, do they hold up or are they cheap messages and indie film money from the 90’s. We will find out together!
Our first pick is the box office poison that was Boondock Saints. According to Box Office Mojo, the widest release it had was five theaters and made $30,471 on a $6,000,000 investment. The cult status came later of this neo-libertarian crime? revenge? movie! Prepare for homophobia!
